Past Thusday 21 of July, “Tequila: A story of a passion” was presented at “The Egyptian” in Hollywood CA as part of the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF). To the red carpet of this US Premiere attended Daniela Schmidt, Angelica Aragon and John Gilbert for the talent of the movie.

As part of the production the Director Sergio Sánchez, the Producers Dankmar García, Daniela Uriza and Santiago Garcia Galvan, the Executive Producer John Morrisey, the Director of Photography Andronico Gonzalez and the Music Composer Carlo Siliotto.

The projection was exceptional. The sound design from John Chalfant was amazing on the Lloyd E. Rigler Theatre and the projection was like never before. As the story unfolds, the audience reacted to the events with exclamations of astonish, surprise and laughter that flooded the theatre making this one of the best projections we have ever had. Near the end of the projection, I realized where I was. We are in Hollywood! It’s a strange feeling. Subconscious. Maybe even incomprehensive. But my heart accelerated and, by the first time in a long time, I could feel the end of our.

Silence. Darknes. And just some seconds before the credits, the applause...

At the end of the projection, they made a Q&A session with the audience. We will publish a video with this session later, but one of the commentaries that touched me more was form a Sr. that was seated almost to the front: "I don't have a question. I just want to thank you for an amazing experience. I've seen several operas, but I can’t imagine one more powerful. It brought me to tears. It's such a beautiful movie..."

His comment came from very within. And in that moment I remembered why I decided to make movies. Why you invest so many years in a project. Why you leave behind time and soul. Why nothing else matters than tell our stories. In the city where the movies are born, we were able to touch the feelings of one person.

For me, there is no bigger award than that.

El pasado Jueves 21 de Julio se presentó "Tequila: Historia de una pasión" en el teatro "The Egyptian" en Hollywood CA como parte del Festival Internacional de Cine Latino de Los Ángeles (LALIFF). A la alfombra roja de esta Premiere en USA se presentaron por parte del elenco Daniela Schmidt, Angélica Aragón y John Gilbert.

Por parte de la producción el Director Sergio Sánchez, los productores Dankmar García, Daniela Uriza y Santiago García Galván, el Productor Ejecutivo John Morrisey, el fotógrafo Andrónico González y el compositor Carlo Siliotto.

La proyección fue excepcional. El diseño sonoro de John Chalfant se escuchó impresionante en la sala Lloyd E. Rigler y la proyección se veía como nunca. Conforme se desenvolvía la historia, el público reaccionaba a los acontecimientos con exclamaciones de asombro, sorpresa y risas, que inundaban la sala haciendo de esta una de las mejores funciones que hemos tenido a la fecha. Hacia el final de la función, tome conciencia del lugar en el que me encontraba. Estamos en Hollywood! Es una sensación extraña. Subconsciente. Tal vez hasta incomprensible. Pero mi corazón se aceleró y, por primera vez en mucho tiempo, pude sentir el final de nuestro proyecto.

Silencio. Obscuridad. Y justo unos segundos antes de los créditos, los aplausos...

Al finalizar la proyección, se realizó una sesión de preguntas y respuestas con el público. Más adelante publicaremos un vídeo con esta sesión, pero uno de los comentarios que más me llegó fue de un señor que estaba sentado casi al frente: "No tengo realmente una pregunta. Solamente quiero agradecer por una experiencia asombrosa. He visto muchas operas, pero no puedo imaginar una más poderosa. Me llevo al llanto. Es una película hermosa..." y la voz se le cortó. No pudo seguir hablando y los aplausos ahogaron sus últimas palabras.

Realmente su comentario venía de muy adentro. Y en ese momento recordé porque decidí hacer cine. Por qué invierte uno tantos años en un proyecto. Por qué deja uno tiempo y alma. Por qué nada importa más que contar nuestras historias. En la ciudad donde nace el cine, habíamos podido tocar los sentimientos de una persona.

Para mí, no hay premio más grande que ese.

Un Trailer es una de las herramientas de venta más importantes de un proyecto cinematográfico. Es el primer acercamiento visual a la historia (después del poster de la película) que tendrá la capacidad (o no) de atrapar con anterioridad al público potencial del proyecto. En si, es una obra que nace del proyecto original y debe contar con una serie de elementos específicos que combinan los elementos cinematográficos de una película con la mercadotecnia y publicidad de la misma.

Los “Golden Trailer Awards” precisamente es una de las premiaciones enfocadas a reconocer el talento de aquellos que tienen que atrapar al publico en menos de 60 segundos. Plantear una historia, el conflicto y los valores de producción en un corto tiempo requiere de un arduo trabajo de edición visual y sonora, conocimiento de la historia y trabajo en conjunto con el director y productores del proyecto.

El Trailer de “Tequila: Historia de una pasión” realizado por la empresa FIX, fue nominado para la 12 entrega de los “Golden Trailer Awards” en la categoría de “Mejor Trailer de Romance Extranjero” compitiendo con los proyectos cinematográficos: “Empire of Silver”, “Goethe!” y “Rosebud”.

Los ganadores serán anunciados durante la premiación el Miércoles 29 de Junio en el “Music Box Theatre” en Los Ángeles, California.

A Trailer is one of the most important sales tools of a cinematography project. Is the first visual approach to the story (after the movie poster) that will have the capacity (or not) of capturing the audience's attention with anticipation. In fact, it is a piece of work born from the original project. Thus it must have a series of specific elements that combine the cinematographic elements with the merchandising and advertising of the movie.

Precisely, “Golden Trailer Awards” is one of the platforms focused on recognizing those who have the task of capturing an audience in less than 60 seconds. Setting the story, the conflict, and the production values of a movie in a short time requires arduous work in visual and sound edition, knowledge about the story, and endless hours of work with the director and producers of the project.

“Tequila: A Story of Passion” Trailer realized by the company FIX, was nominated for the 12th “Golden Trailer Awards” on the category of “Best Foreign Romance Trailer” competing with the projects: “Empire of Silver”, “Goethe!” and “Rosebud”.

The winners will be announced during the awards show on Wednesday June 29th at the Music Box Theatre on LA.

Tequila en el Festival Internacional de Cine en Aruba / Tequila in Aruba International Film Festival

Aruba, también conocida como “Una Isla Feliz”, alojará el 2do Festival Internacional Anual de Cine de Aruba. De Junio 10 al 16, los cines de Aruba proyectarán películas de alrededor del mundo. Nuestra película “Tequila” será una de estas películas que el 13 de Julio a las 19:30 hrs tendrá su primera alfombra roja, a la que asistirán Sergio Sánchez Suárez (Director) y Daniela Schmidt (Actriz – Lola). La proyección será a las 20:00 hrs en el Salón 6 de las facilidades del festival. Al día siguiente Sergio estará en el Salón 4 a las 18:00 hrs para la sección del festival “En conversación con”. “Tequila” tendrá otra proyección el 16 de Junio en el Salón 3 a las 17:00 hrs.

Aruba es una Isla de apenas 33km de largo, perteneciente a las Antillas Menores al sur del Mar Caribe y localizada a 27km al norte de la costa de Venezuela. Con una población de 100,000 habitantes, Aruba no tiene ciudades mayores. Aruba, also known as “One Happy Island”, will be hosting the 2nd Annual Aruba International Film Festival. From June 10 to 16, Aruba’s Movie Theatres will project films from around the world.  Our movie “Tequila” will be one of this movies that on June 13th at 19:30 hrs will have it’s first  Red Carpet to which Sergio Sánchez Suárez (Director) and Daniela Schmidt (Actress – Lola) will be attending. The projection will be at 20:00 hrs on the Room 6 of the festival facilities. The next day Sergio will be on on Room 4 at 18:00 hrs for the section of the festival “In conversation with”. “Tequila” will have another projection on June 16th at Room 3 at 17:00 hrs.

Aruba is a 33km long island of the Lesser Antilles in the southern Caribean Sea, located 27km north of the coast of Venezuela. With a population of 100,000 inhabitants, Aruba does not have major cities. With a tropical marine climate, this is a perfect place for tourism with temperatures of 28 °C to 32 °C and sea all around. Jorge Zárate agradece a Sergio Sánchez la oportunidad que le brinda como caporal en Tequila, filme en el que demostrará su otra faceta actoral

México.- Contratado generalmente para hacer papeles de villano por los rasgos duros de su rostro,Jorge Zárate agradece al cineasta Sergio Sánchez la oportunidad que le brinda como caporal en "Tequila", filme en el que demostrará otra faceta actoral. 

En entrevista con Notimex, Zárate, quien comenzó hace tres días su participación en esta película, manifestó que con "Leoncio" dejará salir todo ese caudal de energía que le sobra para hacer una comedia. 

Al hablar de la producción que evocará el cine mexicano campirano de los años 40 y 50, el actor describió el perfil de su nueva participación fílmica en el cine nacional.

"Soy el caporal que tiene tres hijos que son bastante salvajones, diría yo, y `Leoncio', sufre de algún modo las consecuencias de sus actos, pues al ser viudo, siente que le hace mucha falta su pareja para haber educado más de cerca a sus vástagos", señaló. 

"Leoncio", el brazo derecho de don "Vicente Saldívar" en "Tequila", es para Zárate una catarsis dentro de ese acartonamiento que habría sufrido su carrera, en la que "sólo de maloso deseaban que saliera". 

El actor resaltó la experiencia que le quedó al terminar de leer el guión, resaltando las estructuras dramáticas, muy claramente especificadas, y sobre todo, las situaciones aristotélicas bien cimentadas que, según él, hacen de "Tequila" una historia grata y amena para cualquier espectador. 

"Algo que yo sentí al terminar de leerlo y que percibí como este intento de reproducir el melodrama de los años 40 y 50, creo que ese objetivo me parece muy digno y atractivo por realizar la historia, al menos eso pienso yo", agregó Zárate. 

"Voy a hablar por mí, porque sé que hay mucha gente que no le gusta este cine mexicano de la llamada Epoca de Oro, a mí me marca para tratar de emular esos actores que le dieron brillo", dijo. 

"Me pregunto cuál habría sido mi papel en ese tipo de cine, pues siempre había pensado que estaba cerca como, actoralmente, de Fernando Soto `Mantequillaï o alguno de esos actores que hicieron presencia de soporte detrás de las grandes figuras", comentó. 

Añadió que para fortuna suya, en este guión, no existe tal personaje a la "Mantequilla", sino de "Leoncio", quien en un señalamiento histriónico desempeña una figura como el fallecido cómico, sin llegar a convertirse en patiño.

Zárate, quien permanecerá 11 días en Tequila, Jalisco, para filmar sus escenas, dijo que estará yendo y viniendo, seguramente, pues se encuentra preparando "Agamenón", un monólogo que espera estrenar en julio próximo.

Ollin Studio termina la postproducción de Tequila: Historia de una pasión

Para Tomás Meraz, artista digital de Ollin Studio quien trabajó en el film en la realización de más de 30 secuencias con efectos visuales, el hecho que la película sea de época es un reto particular, porque implica recrear y conservar el estilo, el ambiente y la colorimetría propuesta.

Tequila: Estreno Mundial / Tequila: World Release

La sala del Teatro Macedonio Alcalá se llenó de directores, productores y actores, entre otros realizadores y asistentes que esperaban diera inicio el primer Festival de Cine Independiente y Video Arte de la ciudad de Oaxaca. La expectativa de concursantes y cinéfilos se hacía presente esta noche.

Entre esplendidos colores, trajes típicos y música de la región interpretados por el grupo folclórico de la Casa de la Cultura Oaxaqueña, se inaugura la primera edición del Festival. Después de una muestra de la Guelaguetza se procedió a la entrega de los premios “Agave”, que cubrieron 4 categorías: Mejor Largometraje, Mejor Documental, Mejor Cortometraje y Mejor Película dirigida por un Mexicano, además de 12 menciones honoríficas a películas participantes.

Posteriormente se proyectaron algunos cortometrajes y como apertura del festival, se proyectó en su estreno mundial la película “Tequila”. La película fue presentada por Jimena Guerra, actriz que interpreta a Milagros en dicho filme.

Se encontraba también presente CTT Exp. & Rentals, compañía de renta de equipo cinematográfico y coproductora de algunos de los cortometrajes y de la película Tequila.

Sabemos que muchos otros se quedaron con las ganas de asistir, pero el estreno comercial está ya cada vez más cerca. Pronto podrán ser testigos de este proyecto que se ha llevado mucho tiempo, pero también mucho esfuerzo.

The hall of the Macedonio Alcalá Theatre was full with directors, producers and actors, among other filmmakers and attendants that were waiting the beginning of the first Independent Film and Video Art Festival of Oaxaca. The expectation of the contestants and film fans was present this night.

Between great colors, tipical attires and music of the region interpreted by the “Casa de la Cultura Oaxaqueña” folklore group, takes place the inauguration of the Festival’s first edition. After a sample of the “Guelaguetza”, the delivery of the “Agave” awards took place for 4 categories: Best Feature Film, Best Documentary, Best Short Movie and Best Picture directed by a Mexican, aside of 12 honorific mentions to participating movies.

Thereafter some short movies were projected and as an aperture of the festival, the movie Tequila was projected on its worldwide premiere. The movie was presented by Jimena Guerra, actress that interprets the role of Milagros on the film.

CTT Exp. & Rentals was present too. They rent cinematographic equipment and were coproducers of some of the short movies and the movie Tequila.

We would like to thank all the support of the people that has followed the Project and that, without minding the distance, were on the premiere.

Congratulations to Ramiz Adeeb Azar, founder of the festival. He has on his hands the creation of a space that pledges to be a reunion point for worldwide filmakers.

We know that many others were left with the urge to assist, but the commercial release of the movie is closer than ever. Soon you will be able to be witness of this project that has taken so much time, and also a lot of courage.

“Tequia”: Festival de Gig Harbor / “Tequila”: Gig Harbor Festival

Tequila fue seleccionada para ser exhibida en el festival de Gig Harbor el pasado 16 de Octubre a las 9:05pm en la sala 8 de los Galaxy Theatres. La película fue exhibida como “Trabajo en proceso”, ya que aún faltaban algunos detalles para la copia final. Gig Harbor (O la ciudad Maritima como también se le conoce) se encuentra en Washington. Tequila was selected for exhibition on the Gig Harbor Film Festival the past October 16 at 9:05pm on the Theatre 8 in the Galaxy Theatres. The movie was exhibited as “Work in Progres”, because there were some details missing for the final cut. Gig Harbor (also known as The Maritime City), is located in Washington. The Ojai Film Festival, like the new millennium, was launched in 2000 with with two goals in mind: To provide audiences with opportunities to see groundbreaking work that would otherwise be inaccessible.
To provide filmmakers with an enthusiastic audience including film industry professionals.
The Ojai Film Festival is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and supporting the art of the motion picture through the presentation of an annual multi day festival in which films and videos submitted by filmmakers throughout the world are publicly exhibited at several venues in and around the city of Ojai, California.

Each year, far from big city bustle, this delightful small town located 70 miles from Hollywood's doorstep, offers a unique experience:

• Four days of non-stop screenings.

Todo se remonta al inicio, hace 5 años y un poco más ya. Quisiera decir que lo recuerdo como si fuera ayer, pero no podría. En verdad han pasado muchas cosas. Muchas. Lo que comenzó como un sueño compartido y un proyecto con un ideal, se vuelve hoy una realidad. Y poco a poco van quedando atrás los malos ratos (y los buenos también) para dar paso por fin al esperado “Estreno”.

El proyecto tuvo grandes cambios a lo largo de su realización. A veces hasta perdía la cuenta de cuanta gente se fue involucrando y es más, estoy seguro de que alguno me faltó en los créditos.

Recuerdo cuando por primera vez mi socio y amigo, Sergio Sánchez, se me acercó y me dijo: “Bien, pues nos animamos a escribir en grande…”. Creo que ni el ni yo ni nade imaginamos en ese momento en que tipo de proyecto nos estábamos metiendo. En ese momento decidimos embarcarnos a hacer nuestro primer largometraje.

Hemos vivido la incertidumbre de todo proyecto. Y los últimos meses no fueron la excepción. Entre el dinero que siempre falta y los problemas que siempre sobran. Las ultimas notas en la música. El sonido que cobra vida. La imagen que compone cuadros en movimiento. Lo que ni existe y la magia del cine crea. Los personajes que se crearon. Y los que dejaron de existir. Creo que he visto la película 200 veces… y puedo decir que aún no la he visto.

Se acerca el momento de la verdad. Cuando ahora si queda en manos del público para que la amen o la odien. Para que la destruyan y la hagan pedazos. Para que guarden silencio. ¿Para qué aplaudan? No sé. Sé que habrá de todo. Pero ya no queda miedo. Solo expectativa. Solo la certeza de que es un proyecto en el que entregamos todo. En el que perdimos mucho. Pero lo que recibimos de enseñanza y experiencia, no se puede valuar.  

“El ultimo suspiro,
el momento infinito,
entre el guión y la cámara,
entre el final y los créditos,
el instante eterno
entre el ruido de todo
o el silencio de nada”.

Gracias a todos los involucrados en el proyecto. A los que estuvieron ahí. A los que nos ayudaron desde lejos. A los que ya no están con nosotros y no pudieron ver el resultado final. A los que creyeron en nosotros. Y por qué no, también a los que no creyeron, porque gracias a ellos tuvimos la fuerza de seguir adelante para demostrar que nuestros sueños eran realidad.

Everything goes back to the beginning, five years ago and a little more. I would like to be able to say, that I remember this like it was yesterday, but I can’t. Too many things have happened. To many. What started like a shared dream and an Ideal project, becomes a reality today. Little by little the bad times are leaved behind (and the goodones too) to let the so longed for “Release” happen.

The Project had many important changes during its making. Sometimes I lost count on how many people got involved and I know, for sure, that more than one is missing on the ending credits.

I remember perfectly when for the first time my partner and friend, Sergio Sánchez, came to me and said: “Well, we encouraged ourselves to write the big one…”. I believe that neither him or me or anyone imagined on that moment what kind of project we were doing. In that moment we decided to embark ourselves to do our first feature film.

We have lived the uncertainty of all projects. And the last months weren’t the exception. Between the money that is always less and the problems that are always more. The last music notes. The sound that comes to life. The image that compose frames in movement. What doesn’t exists and the magic of movies creates. The characters created. And those that ceased to be. I thing that I have seen the movie 200 times… and I can say that I haven’t seen it yet.

The moment of the truth is near. When everything is on hands of the audience. To be loved or to be hated. To be destroyed and torn to pieces. To them to become silent. Are they going to cheer? I don’t know. I know that all is going to happened. But there is no fear anymore. Just expectation. Just the certainty that this is a Project in which we gave everything. And lost much too. But what we learned and gained in experience, is not valuable.

between the end and the credits,
the eternal instant
between the noise of everything
or the silence of nothing.”

Thanks to everyone involved on the project. To those that were there. And those who helped from outside. To those that are no longer with us and couldn’t see the final outcome. To those who believed in us. And why not, to those who didn’t believed in us, because thanks to them, we had the force to keep going forward to demonstrate that our dreams were real.
